2023 LOLA Artisanal Series Calistoga Sauvignon Blanc
The LOLA Artisanal Series Calistoga Sauvignon Blanc comes from a small, half-acre block planted just down the street from Seth and Rafa’s home property in Calistoga. The grapes are small and concentrated on tiny clusters, formed on a vertical shoot-positioned trellis and growing within dark, mineral rich, volcanic soils at the base of Mount St. Helena. The intention and inspiration for our LOLA Sauvignon Blanc comes from the esteemed La Côte des Monts Damnés region of Sancerre: Sauvignon Blancs of tremendous depth, opulence, and ageability. In the winery, the grapes are whole-cluster pressed and the unsettled juice is allowed a native cool fermentation in old neutral French oak barrels. The lees are stirred throughout its six-month élévage and the wine is racked once at bottling, unfined and unfiltered. The resulting wine is precise; racy acidity seamlessly complements the aromas of lime, grapefruit, crushed stone, and green apple, leading to a dry, fresh, and crisp finish with an underlying density on the palate. This wine will continue to evolve and age for decades to come.
