2023 LOLA Artisanal Series St. Helena Albariño
The LOLA Artisanal Series St. Helena Albariño is planted in the heart of Cabernet country on Zinfandel Lane, just north of Rutherford in the town of St. Helena. We planted six acres of Albariño here in 2019, and the 2023 vintage was the first harvested. The grapes are small and concentrated on loose clusters, formed on a Y-shaped trellis that creates an open canopy that allows for maximum airflow and even ripeness. In the winery, the grapes are whole-cluster pressed and the unsettled juice is allowed a native cool fermentation in old neutral French oak barrels. The lees are stirred throughout its six-month élévage and the wine is racked once at bottling, unfined and unfiltered. The finished wine is dry, fresh, and crisp with a subtle weighted creaminess on the palate to balance out the racy acidity, complemented by aromas of pineapple, citrus, lemongrass, and green apple.
