2023 LOLA Artisanal Series St. Helena Zinfandel
LOLA Old Vine Zinfandel is grown on our small, one-acre vineyard along the Napa River, located just east of the town of St. Helena. Most of this block was planted in 1954 with about aquarter of it having been replanted in 2009 with own-rooted cuttings from the old vines.
We aim to harvest this vineyard at 22-23 brix in an effort to produce a lively, native fermented old vine Zinfandel. The wine is then aged in neutral oak for 6-8 months, producing a wine that is fresh and bright on the palate with aromas of wild red fruit, sweet tobacco, and bay leaf.
The 2023 vintage is a standout for our Zinfandel and is quite possibly the greatest vintage of this wine that we’ve made to date. There is an extra intensity and power to the aromatics, layered over a seamless structure and mouthfeel. This is a wine to lay down for a few years for sure. 180 cases produced.
