2024 LOLA Artisanal Series St. Helena Chenin Blanc
The LOLA Artisanal Series St. Helena Chenin Blanc comes from vines nearly half a century old planted next to Revana and Grace Family Vineyards, just north of the town of St. Helena. The grapes are small and concentrated on loose clusters, formed with a California sprawl canopy to allow for maximum airflow and even ripeness of the individual berries. Once picked, the grapes are whole-cluster pressed and the juice is allowed a native cool fermentation in old neutral French oak barrels. 2024 marks our second vintage using a light filtration on this wine. The aim is to enhance its precision and give it the best chance to reveal its full beauty as it ages. Seth considers our Chenin to be one of the finest white wines we produce and expects it to evolve gracefully over the coming decades. After working with this varietal for nine vintages, he now believes that gentle filtration will help the wine better express its character over the long term. Aged on lees, the 2024 vintage shows brighter acidity than 2023, while retaining the powerful aromatics from barrel ferment and lees contact. Fresh and crisp, with notes of jasmine, pear, and apple—this is Chenin with elegance, tension, and texture.
